1803 - Robert Emmet's Rising Plans

Robert Emmet began final preparations for his rebellion against British rule. He established weapons depots across Dublin and organized his supporters. Though the rising would ultimately fail, it would become a powerful symbol of Irish revolutionary nationalism.

1871 - First Licensing Act

The Licensing Act of 1871 came into effect, introducing new regulations for Irish pubs. This legislation established many of the basic rules for alcohol sales that would persist for decades. The act marked a significant step in regulating Ireland's drinking establishments.

1969 - Civil Rights March in Newry

A major civil rights march took place in Newry, County Down, drawing thousands of protesters. The peaceful demonstration faced opposition from loyalist counter-protesters. This event contributed to the escalating tensions in Northern Ireland.
