1870 - Home Government Association

Isaac Butt established the Home Government Association in Dublin. This organization was a precursor to the Home Rule movement. The association marked the beginning of organized campaigning for Irish self-government.

1923 - Free State Army Operations

The National Army launched major operations against anti-Treaty forces. These actions marked an intensification of the Civil War. The operations demonstrated the government's determination to end resistance.

1956 - Border Campaign Launch

The IRA initiated its Border Campaign against Northern Ireland. This marked the beginning of Operation Harvest. The campaign would continue until 1962, though with limited success.
