1884 - GAA Foundation Plans
Michael Cusack and others met in Thurles to plan the establishment of the Gaelic Athletic Association. 1914 - Ulster Gun-Running
The Ulster Volunteer Force successfully landed a major shipment of arms at Larne, County Antrim, in a carefully planned operation that demonstrated the determination of Ulster Unionist resistance to Home Rule. The gun-running operation, which brought in thousands of rifles and rounds of ammunition, significantly strengthened the UVF's military capabilities and sent a powerful message about unionist resolve to resist Irish self-government.
1949 - Republic Declaration
