1938 - Douglas Hyde Inaugurated as First President

Dr. Douglas Hyde was inaugurated as the first President of Ireland under the new Constitution. 1867 - Clan na Gael Founded in New York

The influential Irish-American revolutionary organization Clan na Gael was established in New York City. 1951 - First Broadcast of Radio Éireann Orchestra

The Radio Éireann Symphony Orchestra gave its first broadcast performance, marking a significant milestone in Irish classical music. The orchestra, performing from the Phoenix Hall in Dublin, helped establish a professional orchestral tradition in Ireland and brought classical music to a wider audience through regular radio broadcasts.

1495 - Poynings' Law Enacted in Drogheda

Sir Edward Poynings convened a parliament in Drogheda that passed the infamous Poynings' Law, requiring all Irish legislation to be approved by the English Privy Council. This law would severely restrict Irish parliamentary independence for centuries to come and became a lasting symbol of English control over Irish affairs.
