1920 - IRA Ambush at Rineen, Clare

In one of the most significant engagements of the Irish War of Independence, IRA volunteers ambushed a Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) patrol at Rineen, County Clare. The carefully planned attack resulted in the deaths of six RIC officers and marked a turning point in the conflict in Clare. The ambush led to severe reprisals from Crown forces, who burned several houses and businesses in nearby Miltown Malbay and Lahinch.

1963 - President John F. Kennedy Visits Ireland

During his historic four-day visit to Ireland, President Kennedy arrived in Dublin, receiving an unprecedented welcome from enormous crowds. The visit marked the first time a sitting US President had visited Ireland. Kennedy's journey to his ancestral homeland captured the imagination of both nations and strengthened the bonds between Ireland and America.

1996 - Veronica Guerin Assassination

Prominent Irish journalist Veronica Guerin was murdered in her car while stopped at traffic lights on the Naas Road in Dublin. Her death shocked the nation and led to significant changes in Ireland's criminal justice system. The murder prompted the establishment of the Criminal Assets Bureau and marked a turning point in Ireland's fight against organized crime.

1848 - Young Irelander Rebellion Plans Unveiled

William Smith O'Brien and other Young Ireland leaders met in Dublin to finalize their plans for a nationwide rebellion against British rule. The meeting established the groundwork for what would become the Young Irelander Rebellion of 1848. Though ultimately unsuccessful, the rebellion would inspire future generations of Irish republicans and nationalists.
