1879 - Land League Meeting in Mayo

The first major meeting of what would become the Land League took place in Irishtown, County Mayo. Michael Davitt and James Daly organized the gathering to protest unfair land practices. This meeting would launch the Land War, a pivotal campaign for tenant farmers' rights in Ireland.

1904 - Abbey Theatre Plans Announced

W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory announced their plans to establish the Abbey Theatre, Ireland's national theatre. They secured premises on Abbey Street in Dublin for their new venture. The theatre would become a cornerstone of Ireland's cultural renaissance and nurture generations of Irish dramatic talent.

1919 - First Dáil Labour Program

The First Dáil adopted the Democratic Programme, outlining its vision for workers' rights and social justice in Ireland. This radical document promised significant social and economic reforms in the new Irish state. Though many of its promises remained unfulfilled, it represented an important statement of revolutionary Ireland's social aims.

1962 - RTÉ Radio Modernization

RTÉ Radio began broadcasting from its new studios in Donnybrook, Dublin, marking a major modernization of Irish broadcasting. The move from Henry Street represented a significant upgrade in facilities and technology. This development enabled RTÉ to expand its programming and improve broadcast quality.
