1803 - Miles Byrne's Mission

Miles Byrne departed for France to seek support for Robert Emmet's planned rebellion. His mission aimed to secure French military assistance for the uprising. Though unsuccessful, this diplomatic effort highlighted the continuing influence of French revolutionary ideas.

1923 - Free State Constitution

The Constitution of the Irish Free State came into full operation. This document established the framework for Ireland's new political system. Despite limitations imposed by the Anglo-Irish Treaty, it marked Ireland's first modern constitution.

1972 - Bloody Sunday Prelude

Major civil rights demonstrations began in Derry, leading up to Bloody Sunday. These peaceful protests focused on anti-internment and civil rights demands. The growing tension would culminate in one of the Troubles' most significant events.
